A female snow leopard has taken up residence at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington.
Thursday the leopard named Hima joins male snow leopard Rilu at the central Illinois zoo. Zoo officials say they hope the pair will breed for the Snow Leopard Species Survival Plan. Hima comes to Bloomington from the Bronx Zoo. She was born at the Granby Zoo in Quebec, Canada.
The endangered species has a captive population of about 150 in North America.
