Illini Cruise In Exhibition

Tracy Abrams scored 17 points and Nnanna Egwu had 10 rebounds to lead Illinois past West Chester 75-66 in the Illini's final exhibition game.

Trailing 11-12 seven minutes into the first half Sunday, Illinois made five straight free throws that led a 14-0 run. Illinois kept the lead from there and closed out the first half 44-20.

Graduate student-transfer Sam McLaurin had 11 points and nine rebounds while guards Abrams, D.J. Richardson and Brandon Paul had two assists each.

Illinois contained the lead throughout the second half, although West Chester posted 46 points and closed it to a 10-point gap with one minute remaining.

The Illini committed 21 turnovers.

Jon Breeden led West Chester with 12 points.

The Illini open their season Friday against Colgate.
