GM Meetings Get Underway In California; Baseball Notes

(Indian Wells, CA) -- Major League Baseball's Hot Stove season will get a push with the start of the General Managers Meetings today. GM's from all 30 clubs are slated to gather at the Hyatt Grand Champions hotel in Indian Wells, California. It will be an opportunity to discuss trade opportunities and gauge the free-agent market ahead of next month's Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee. The marquee free agents this year are outfielder Josh Hamilton and pitcher Zack Greinke.

>>Rangers' Darvish Won't Pitch In WBC

(Arlington, TX) -- Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish won't participate in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. The All-Star helped Japan defeat South Korea in the WBC championship game in 2009. Darvish went 16-and-9 with a 3.90 ERA while throwing 191 innings over 29 regular season starts this season for the Rangers. It was his first season in the majors after leaving Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball League. The 26-year-old is considered one of the contenders for the American League Rookie of the Year award. Japan has won both World Baseball Classic's after defeating Cuba in the title game in 2006.
