MLB Names Silver Slugger Winners

Major League Baseball announced its American and National League Silver Slugger Award winners on Thursday. The award honors the best offensive player at each position. Tigers third baseman and Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera headlines the list of 18 players from both leagues. He joins teammate and first baseman Prince Fielder. Second baseman Robinson Cano and shortstop Derek Jeter represent the Yankees. Josh Hamilton of the Rangers, Mike Trout from the Angels and Josh Willingham of Minnesota complete the outfield winners. Catcher A.J. Pierzynski of the White Sox and designated hitter Billy Butler from Kansas City round out the American League.

The Nationals received three awards in first baseman Adam LaRoche, shortstop Ian Desmond and starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg. Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun won his fifth straight award. Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen and Jay Bruce from Cincinnati close out the NL outfield. Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill, Padres third baseman Chase Headley and Giants catcher Buster Posey also earned Silver Sluggers.
