Bruised Illinois GOP Looks To 2014

Stinging from a walloping at the polls, Illinois Republicans are already focusing on the 2014 governor's race as their best chance to emerge from the political cellar, while acknowledging a recovery means doing things differently.

Democrats won veto-proof majorities in the state House and Senate on Tuesday. They also now make up a majority of the state's congressional delegation and control all but two statewide offices.

Republicans are re-evaluating everything from their campaign strategies to the diversity of their candidates and their policy priorities, such as their line against immigration reforms.

Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady says winning the governor's race would be the "quickest trip back to relevancy." Brady says the party must overcome its "caricature" as "a bunch of angry people standing in the way of everything."
