Veterans Day observations are being held statewide including a traveling art exhibit that highlights hand-sketched portraits of fallen service members.
The holiday will be observed Monday. Many schools will be closed including in Chicago. It's also a U.S. Postal Service holiday and most government buildings will be closed.
On Sunday, Gov. Pat Quinn is expected to present an art exhibit called "Portrait of a Soldier." It features pictures of soldiers who have been killed since Sept. 11, 2001. It's a traveling exhibit and is currently on display at Chicago's Navy Pier.
Meanwhile, a group of veterans from wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam says they'll call for peace and the immediate withdrawal of troops.
On Saturday, hundreds in southwestern Illinois attended a veterans' event at the O'Fallon Veterans' Monument.
