Rash of Burglaries Hitting Clinton Businesses

Clinton and surrounding areas have seen a rash of burglaries over the past several months.

 width=In the last three or four months alone, there have been almost a dozen burglaries to several area businesses, including a select few getting burglarized twice. Clinton Police Chief Mike Reidy says the theives are not spending a lot of time in the businesses and are taking start up cash for the next day and other loose money.

All the banks in Clinton offer a night deposit service to local businesses. Chief Reidy explains one thing businesses can do to make themselves less vulnerable to losing a lot of money is call the police department for an escort to the bank late at night. The Chief understands driving to a bank alone late at night can be a little scary, he says any business can call the police department and request a free escort to the bank.

These burglaries are taking place at very early hours of the morning, mainly between 3 and 5 am. Chief Reidy says they are seeking the public's help in find current suspects and preventing future thefts. The Chief says many times when they are asking neighbors to business and residential burglaries, people hear or see things but do not call because they do not want to be a bother. Chief Reidy emphasizes, calling in suspicious activity is not a bother.

Chief Reidy says at one break in they have video of the suspects in the building, but not much else because they are in all black with masks and gloves, leaving no fingerprints.
