Maroa-Forsyth Schools Pleased With 2012 State Report Card

School report cards from the State of Illinois have been handed out to school districts and one district's leader is very pleased with his school's showing this year.

Maroa-Forsyth Schools saw a lot of good things on the State Report Cards this year, and Superintendent Mike Williams says the biggest thing that caught his eye this year was a 50% increase in test scores for their high school. He credits the teachers of the district for their hard work.

While Williams is pleased with their numbers this year, and rightfully so, he cautions district members, Board of Education members, and others to keep in mind, the figures of the State Report Card are based on one year's test of one group of students. While consistency of high numbers is the goal, Williams notes next year's numbers could be drastically different because it will be a new group of students.

Overall, Williams was pleased with Maroa-Forsyth Schools report cards for this year. One area of concern he had was in the grade school ISAT scores saw a small decrease in their reading scores. Williams notes it's not a major red flag to him because the cut score was increased, and going forward he feels, that is something they can adjust to, and start to see those scores go back up.

Because Maroa-Forsyth schools, as a district, did not make Adequate Yearly Progress for this year, they are in the early stages of having to make school and district improvements. Williams notes this is nothing surprising or new for them. He explains they are always evaluating their weaknesses and working to improving them. The only thing that will change is the way they report their changes.
