Hunters Advised To Check Hunting Stands Prior To Hunting

As hunters head out for the opening of the fire arm season in Illinois, authorities are seeing some concerning trends.

One trend in particular is hunters falling out of their tree stands. Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police Officer, Ray Wichus says already this year they've seen two hunters have an accident. He explains it is best if you have checked your equipment before you go out and hunt, but if you have not, the best thing to do is check out your ropes, chains, and tree stand wood before you get too comfortable.

To this point, the accidents they know about have been to tree stands that are purchased. Wichus explains though, most tree stands get left up all year, making it even more important that hunters get out before they set up for the day, and check out their equipment.

Wichus says most parts for your tree stand are pretty prevelent in sporting goods stores. He advises hunters to take time and check out your stand, even though it may scare away a few deer. He feels it is better to do that than get in a hurry and put yourself in harms way to a faulty ropes, hooks, and steps.
