Senior Driving Class To Be Put On Next Week

There will be a new drivers' safety class for senior citizens next week.

The TRIAD program of DeWitt County has made it possible for local seniors to take the "AARP Drivers' Safety Class". The Dewitt County Triad which is a group of law enforcement and social agencies that focus on the elderly in the community and their needs. The class will be open to people who are ages 50 and over. Clinton Police Chief Mike Reidy says the class will cover a variety of driving topics.

Chief Reidy says if people pass the class, they will be eligible for discounts on automobile insurance. This discount will be good for 3 years. There will also be a cost to the class, but there will be a small discount if you are an AARP member. There will also be a special discount for veterans.

Chief Reidy believes the discount on the insurance should make up for the fee charged by AARP for the class.

The class will be held at the Warner Library on November 26th and 27th. AARP members will pay $12 and non-member pay $14. Chief Reidy says the class can hold to up to 25. There is still plenty of room to enroll for the class, so he encourages anyone interested to sign up so the class is not canceled. If anyone is interested they can call the Clinton Police Department at 935-9443.
