Richland Community College Online Learning Great Alternative For Busy Lifestyle

Richland Community College is expanding its online learning services.

The Decatur based community college has made its online courses a flat rate of $145 a credit hour for anyone in the United States. Richland's Director of Online Learning Kona Jones says that this will help make the classes available for more people.

During the current semester and again in the spring semester, there are over 60 classes available onlines. Jones says people who only have basic computer skills should not worry about the classes being too technologically advanced since all students have to go through an online orientation.

Jones notes online learning is not for everyone though. She explains students who enjoy reading and working independently may do better than students who benefit from hearing lectures and interacting with a professor.

Currently the system Richland is using does not do well with mobile technology, however, this summer, the school will be implementing a new learning management system that Jones says is going to be very user friendly.

Jones adds the only requirement needed for most of the classes is a high school diploma or GED.
