DJWH To Transfer Ambulance Service To PSI Saturday Morning

Come Saturday morning, Paramedic Services of Illinois will be the official ambulance provider of DeWitt County.

CEO of the Dr. John Warner Hospital, Earl Sheehy says effective 7am Saturday morning, they will be turning over the service to PSI. He says titles for vehicles and equipment have been transfered over, and they have received the money for everything.

Both PSI and the hospital had entered into negotiations over equipment and supplies after PSI was chosen the provider to replace the DJWH. Those negotiations led PSI to purchasing all four of the hospital's vehicles. Sheehy notes this was a surprise because they had placed the fourth vehicle into an auction but were never able to sell it for what they wanted.

From the onset, this has always been about making the hospital more financially stable. Sheehy says having the hospital and ambulance separate will accomplish that. He says in negotiating with PSI there was a spirit of cooperation and both parties were very willing to work together. Sheehy says he was never worried they wouldn't get something worked out for the transactions.

Because the hospital is owned by the city, they had to receive fair market value for both the ambulances and the equipment purchased by PSI. Sheehy says they received what they feel is fair market value.

PSI has retained several current employees of the ambulance department, the ones they did not retain, the hospital will be laying off.
