Sentence Delayed For Man Accused Of Shooting At Cops

A Springfield man who tried killing two police officers last year is still waiting to learn how much prison time he'll serve. Sentencing for Jesus Ramirez has been pushed back for a third time. Ramirez led officers on a high speed chase down Interstate 55 from northern McLean County to the Stevenson Drive exit in Springfield last year. He attempted to shoot the officers after his vehicle rolled over, but the gun didn't fire.

Sangamon County State's Attorney John Milhiser says Ramirez's defense team is to blame for the delays, a team which includes former Blagojevich defense attorney Sam Adam Jr. He's currently mulling a run for Congress to replace Jesse Jackson Jr., though Milhiser couldn't confirm if that's why there are continuted delays. The new hearing is scheduled for this afternoon at 1:30.
