New County Board Sworn In; Changes Proposed

Eight new DeWitt County Board members were sworn in on Monday night. Along with those eight, a new County Board Chair, Vice-Chair were named, and also new to the County Board was the State's Attorney.

 width=Sherry Brown was unanimously named the County's Chair, and Pete Dougherty was unanimously named the Vice-Chair. Normally the process of Monday night would have been the naming of committees and their chairs. However, newly named Board Chair Brown proposed a little bit of a shake-up.

Because the action would require amending of the County Board's rules, newly elected State's Attorney Karle Koritz will have to investigate if this can be done. He explains County Board rules state there is to be a Chairperson and four members.

New Board Member George Wissmiller says in his time around County Board's, the system proposed seems to work the best. He explains there is much more transparency, all Board Members are in the know of the workings and discussions of all departments of the County.

The County Board has set a special meeting for Thursday to further discuss and take action on amending their rules by which they govern. It is estimated, holding fewer meetings would save the County $90 per month.

Also at the special meeting, the Cencom and ETSB Board's will be set, the 708 Board members will be determined, along with he DCDC, the Friendship Center, and the Bi-County Health Department Board's will be nominated for.
