If-I-Were-Santa Essayists Honored

One essayist would give medicine to the sick and another would guide refugees to safety employing magic reindeer.

Those were among the suggestions from children in a statewide essay contest that asked what they'd do if they were Santa.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is honoring ten winners and runners-up.

Robbie Diefenbach attends Adams School in Creal Springs. He wrote the winning essay in the 5th grade through 8th grade category.

If he were Santa, he wrote he would be, in his words, "the love you feel when you pick out a present for your grandma" and "the generosity you feel when you drop a dollar in the Salvation Army bucket."

All those honored will have a chance to read their essays at the museum on Dec. 16.
