Democrats Plan Endorsement Session For Jackson Seat

Democratic officials in the Chicago area will hear from more than a dozen contenders to replace former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr.

The Cook County Democratic Party says it'll endorse one candidate.

Thornton Township Committee Frank Zuccarelli says there are 15 names on the list. They'll meet Saturday. Each candidate gets five minutes to make a pitch and then democratic committeemen will ask questions.

The party's support would give any candidate a boost, particularly with fundraising.

The primary for the special election is Feb. 26. The election is April 9.

Jackson resigned last month citing his health and acknowledging he's under federal investigation. He first won the Chicago area seat in a 1995 special election.

It's largely Democratic territory including Chicago neighborhoods and suburbs.
