Congressman-Elect Davis Readying To Serve Central Illinois

Now that the election season is over, one local lawmaker is readying for the challenges that await him in Washington, DC.

 width=Congressman-elect Rodney Davis will be filling the Congressional seat vacated by retiring Rep. Tim Johnson. Davis realizes he has his work cut out for him and credits Rep. Johnson with many years of service to Central Illinois.

Since Davis' victory became official, he has been out to Washington, DC a couple times for orientation sessions. Davis says while he is familiar with the landscape of the nation's capitol, he says he still has some things to learn.

During his orientation, Davis notes there was a large number of new faces, and notes it was pretty evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. He says he is looking forward to getting know his constituents and working with them closely in the future. While his contact with the current members of Congress was limited, Davis explains whenever he would see someone, he would walk up to them and introduce themselves.

Davis will be sworn in January 3. He has been assigned to the Transportation and Agriculture Committees and says he is is glad to be a part of them, as they were his first two choices of the committees he wanted to serve on.

Davis was elected in a close race over Democrat David Gill in the November election.
