New Richland Community College Site Has Local Leaders Excited

The Douglass addition east of US Highway 51 in Clinton has it's first developer, and local leaders are quite excited about it.

Richland Community College has announced their intentions to be the first to build at the Douglass addition near the Sunset Inn and Suites. Clinton Mayor Carolyn Peters explains when she came on as Mayor almost two years ago, she heard about the Douglass development, and so she took it on and after almost a year of pursuing developers for the lots, they finally have their first one.

Executive Director of the DeWitt County Development Council, Ruth Stuaffer says this new site will be an asset to the community. She explains whenever she is speaking to potential developers, the question of incentives comes up and having the resources for an educated workforce base is very appealing.

Finding the Community College a better Clinton location has been a long process. Stauffer explains she has been with the DCDC for eight years and it was a discussion even before then. She says it took a lot of discussion and searching, but the decision was made to move to the Douglass subdivision.

Vice President of Richland Community College, Dr. Douglass Brauer explains they just finished celebrating their 40th year, and he feels this new chapter in Clinton is a logical step forward.

Mayor Peters says the Community College plays a major role communities. She says not everyone can afford to go straight to the 4-year universities, which is why she is thrilled Clinton now has this option in the community.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for January 11, 2013 with the target of completion for the start of classes in the fall semester of 2013.
