Sheriff's Squad Cars To Use Propane To Save Money

The Coles County Sheriff's Office will use propane fuel for two squad cars in an effort to save money.

Sheriff Darrell Cox says his office often goes over its fuel budget and this will be more economical. Two of the office's 2010 Ford Crown Victoria squad cars were converted three weeks ago to run on liquid propane fuel. The vehicles will use propane part of the time and regular gas the rest of the time.

The sheriff says if the program works he could convert the office's other 12 squad cars to propane fuel too. Cox says having the whole fleet on propane could save $30,000 a year.
