Chaplain Chosen to Lead Illinois National Guard

Gov. Pat Quinn has named a new leader for the Illinois National Guard.

Daniel Krumrei (KRUHM-roy) on Friday was named adjutant general of the Illinois National Guard and director of the Department of Military Affairs. He replaces Bill Enyart, who left the guard to successfully run as a Democrat for Congress in Illinois' 12th District.

Krumrei is a 35-year veteran of the guard and a former colonel. He has served as Illinois Army National Guard command staff chaplain since 2005. He has been a chaplain since 1992.

Quinn's office highlighted Krumrei's skills as a chaplain, saying he will lead the guard as service members return from overseas deployment and need services.

Krumrei lives in Springfield. He holds degrees from the Army War College and Phillips Graduate Seminary.
