>>Nets Fire Avery Johnson; Carlesimo Takes Over As Interim Coach

(Brooklyn, NY) -- The Brooklyn Nets fired head coach Avery Johnson on Thursday. The Nets made the announcement at a press conference. Assistant P.J. Carlesimo will serve as interim head coach. Johnson guided the Nets to a 14-and-14 mark this season, but the team is just 3-and-10 in the month of December. He is just 60-and-116 in two-plus seasons as coach of the Nets. He also spent four years as head coach in Dallas. Overall, Johnson is 254-and-186 in the regular season and 23-and-24 in the playoffs.

>>Report: Phil Jackson Is Brooklyn's Top Target

(Brooklyn, NY) -- Now that the Brooklyn Nets have fired head coach Avery Johnson after a 14-and-14 start, they want to make a big splash. According to ESPN their top target to replace Johnson is former Bulls and Lakers coach Phil Jackson. Jackson's agent told NBA.com earlier in the day that his client did not have interest in the job. Brooklyn, with the deep pockets of owner Mikhail Prokhorov, will attempt to lure the 11-time champion anyway. Jackson was close to a return earlier in the season with the Lakers, but they decided to go with Mike D'Antoni. Jackson's name came up during the offseason in relation with the New York Knicks job. New York ended up retaining Mike Woodson.
