John Cullerton will keep his post as President of the Illinois Senate. But Senator Dale Righter offered the Dems an opportunity to show their bipartisanship, on day one.

He won't need a single Republican vote to pass any measure, considering there are 40 Democrats in the Senate. Still, Cullerton says he's looking forward to working with Republicans on tough issues.

Righter indeed nominated Radogno for the job, which is usually held by a senior member of the majority party. Cullerton obliged Righter and the Republicans and actually voted for Radogno, knowing his vote wouldn't alter his chances of being elected. It's the third time Cullerton has been elected as leader. Thirty seven members of the senate voted to keep Cullerton in the top spot. House Speaker Michale Madigan was also reelected as Speaker.
