>>Cubit Relishes Reclamation Project At Illinois

New Illinois offensive coordinator Bill Cubit says he enjoys a reclamation project.

At Illinois, he'll take over an offense that was last in the Big Ten in points scored at just under 17 a game last year. The team went 2-10 and lost its last nine in a row.

Cubit was hired Monday. On Wednesday, he said he's told players they'll have to put last season behind them if they don't want to relive it.

Cubit is still figuring out what kind of offense he'll run but expects to be more balanced than the pass-heavy teams he led as head coach at Western Michigan. The Broncos fired Cubit after last season.

Cubit says it could be summer before he chooses a starting quarterback between Nathan Scheelhaase (SHEEL'-hows) and Reilly O'Toole.

>>Illini Plan Spring Night Football Game

Illinois will play its annual Orange and Blue Spring Game under the lights this year. It's scheduled for a Friday night, April 12.

The Illini will start spring practices on March 5 in Champaign and run through April 10. One practice session will be held in Gately Stadium on Chicago's South Side on March 29.

Illinois finished last season 2-10. The Illini have since fired co-offensive coordinator Chris Beatty and hired former Western Michigan head coach Bill Cubit to run the offense.
