Former Obama Adviser Speaks Of King Legacy At ISU

A former adviser to President Barack Obama has urged an audience at Illinois State University to follow the example of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and get involved in important causes.

Environmental and civil rights activist Van Jones served as White House adviser on green jobs for six months.

He spoke Friday to an ISU dinner celebrating King's legacy.

Jones said King is so revered not because of what he was able to achieve but "because of the quality of the effort."

He added that King's dream "was giving America a second chance at the greatness we are striving to still become."

Jones told students earlier in the day their generation is "poised to do a lot," using its technological savvy and sheer numbers.
