Ameren Illinois Wants $50-Million Rate Increase

Residential customers of Ameren Illinois could see an increase of several dollars per month on their gas bills.

The company filed a request Friday for a $50 million rate increase to help recover the costs of delivering natural gas as well as replacing pipes and modernizing equipment.

The utility delivers gas to 813,000 customers in central and southern Illinois.

The Illinois Commerce Commission approved a $32.2 million gas deliver rate increase for the company a year ago.

If the new request is approved, a typical residential customer would pay an extra $2.52 to $4 a month, depending on where they live.

Vice President Craig Nelson said in a statement the company would try to help consumers handle any increase by offering advice on energy efficiency.
