Governor Quinn Addresses Major Issues In State of the State Address

Governor Pat Quinn gave his annual State of the State address Wednesday afternoon.

 width=The Governor took the opportunity address some major issues facing the state. He says the legislator must be ready to make tough decisions in the upcoming legislative year. One surprising area he addressed was the minimum wage in Illinois. The Governor called on lawmakers to increase Illinois' minimum wage, which is already one of the highest in the nation.

The Governor recognized Illinois needs to come up with a concealed carry law, which currently is non-existent in Illinois. Governor Quinn reiterated his desire for an assault weapons ban in Illinois.

The obvious obstacle that has yet to be dealt with under Governor Quinn's tenure is the state's ballooning pension crisis. The Governor addressed this by urging lawmakers to get pension reform passed this session.

The Governor also addressed gay marriage in Illinois, voter registration and open primaries, unemployment, and up to date mental health records to prevent gun violence.
