Cardinals Avoid Arbitration With Freese

The St. Louis Cardinals have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract with third baseman David Freese.  Terms were not disclosed, but the "Post-Dispatch" reported the amount was expected to exceed three-million-dollars.  The 2011 World Series MVP hit .293 last season while setting career highs with 20 home runs and 79 RBI, earning his first All-Star selection.  He's a career .296 hitter with 35 home runs in four seasons with the Cardinals overall.
