Monticello Area Foundation Holding Annual Gala Event Saturday

The Monticello Area Educational Foundation, MAEF, which supports Monticello Schools is holding their only fundraising event this weekend.

The Educational Foundation's Gala event is this weekend at Monticello Jr. High School. Dr. Vic Zimmerman, Superintendent of Monticello Schools explains the theme for this year is the "Healing Arts". Dr. Zimmerman explains this year they will be honoring graduates in the medical field. Guests of Honor for this year's event are Dr. Beth Riley Hicks, Class of 1991 and Dr. Roger Crouse, Class of 1969..

In years past, the Foundation's Gala's have honored business owners and entrepreneurs, also military personnel and educators. Dr. Zimmerman says because of the great success of Monticello graduates, they make it quite easy to come up with people to honor.

Dr. Zimmerman says the foundation provides financially assistance to the district for a variety of areas. He explains they've provided several thousand dollars in scholarships for students over the past several years. On top of those scholarships they also help provide tutoring opportunities for students who need it.

This year's Gala is the only fundraiser for the school foundation. Dr. Zimmerman says the school district is very fortunate to have the continuous support of the Foundation.
