FFA Week Highlight - Blue Ridge & Monticello

FFA Week continues, local chapters are taking the opportunity to promote and publicize themselves.

The Monticello FFA Chapter has organized special days to promote their FFA members. Elizabeth Miller is the Vice-President of the Monticello FFA Chapter Development, she feels this week is a reward for the FFA members.

The Monticello FFA has over 150 members. Miller feels their efforts in reaching out to the younger grade levels pays off. She explains the freshman class that came in and joined the Monticello Chapter of FFA really was a boost to their numbers.

The Blue Ridge FFA is also recognizing FFA this week. President of the chapter, Katie Tobin says the last few weeks have been eventful for her as she is going for her state FFA Degree. Tobin explains getting a state FFA Degree takes a long time to achieve.

Like many FFA members, Tobin does not have an agriculture background. She explains she has come to appreciate FFA and says FFA is for anyone and really teaches young people important life skills.

This week FFA Chapters around the country are showcasing themselves raising awareness or holding activities in their local communities.

This week WHOW is also highlighting those local FFA chapters from around the area. Local Farm Broadcaster Jared White will be interviewing leaders of those chapters during his daily noon farm show. So far this week FFA Chapters from Lincoln, Clinton, Maroa-Forsyth, Blue Ridge and Monticello have all stopped by. This week Chapters from Normal U-High and Heyworth will be stopping by as well.
