FFA Week Highlight - Heyworth

Last week FFA Chapters around the country took time to promote themselves and the things they do throughout the year.

A newer chapter to the area, Heyworth used the week to do things recognizing their nearly 60-member group. Jestun Nutter is the Heyworth FFA Advisor, he explains also part of this week is reaching out to the younger grade levels and raising awareness among them.

The Heyworth FFA Chapter started in September of 2005. Nutter explains the program started strong and has remained fairly steady in enrollment at the school. Nutter feels he would rather have a smaller group of dedicated, quality students than a large number of students.

The Heyworth FFA Chapter, like most chapters, uses a donated plot that raises a lot of money. But Nutter says they also do something else that raises a lot of money. The FFA kids restore an antique tractor every year and do a raffle throughout the year to the various events they go to then give it away.

Nutter says the FFA students do all the planning for what they want to do during FFA week. He says planning took a little over a month.

Area FFA Chapters talked with WHOW Farm Broadcaster Jared White last week during his noon farm show. To hear all those interviews, visit illinoisfarmradio.com.
