County Board Looking Into Extending Fishing Areas At Clinton Lake Marina

The DeWitt County Board is making some changes to fishing areas at the Clinton Lake Marina.

An ad-hoc committee was formed recently to look into expanding fishing areas at the Marina. Committee Chair Danny Ballenger says he was approached by residents who desired to fish at the Marina, but could not because of a 'No Fishing-Ban'. Ballengers says he took the voiced concerns to the County Board, who formed the committee to discuss what could be done.

Fishing at the Marina will be opened up to fishing, however, within 100 feet of the docks will keep the 'No Fishing Ban' in place. Ballenger says that was at the request of the slip renters because that is where they tie their boats up.

Ballenger explains a study was done recently that showed fishing would be a good thing for that area of the Marina. He adds Marina employees would be able to enforce the rules and if anyone resisted their enforcement, DNR would respond.

Ballenger doesn't feel the new measure would not cause any problems. He was pleased with the way the committee worked together in coming up with an agreement.

The County Board was going to vote on the measure last Thursday night, however, inclement weather forced the cancellation of the meeting.
