Team USA Ties Sox; Konerko Could Join Team USA

(Glendale, AZ) -- Team USA opened exhibition play with a 4-4 tie against the Chicago White Sox Tuesday as it gears up for this week's opening round of the World Baseball Classic in Arizona. The Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton drove in three runs and the Brewers' Ryan Braun went 3-for-4 for the U.S, which overcame an early 4-0 deficit to salvage the tie. Rangers pitcher Derek Holland allowed one run in three innings as the starter. Paul Konerko and Gordon Beckham each went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Chicago. The U.S. lost first baseman Mark Teixeira [[ tuh-SHARE-uh ]] of the Yankees to a strained forearm in batting practice. Team USA plays an exhibition against Colorado tonight. The U.S. opens WBC play Friday against Mexico.

(Phoenix, AZ) -- White Sox first baseman could be joining Team USA for the World Baseball Classic. U.S. first baseman Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees withdrew yesterday with a wrist injury. Konerko, along with Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers and Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies,are being considered as replacements.
