DeWitt County Sheriff's Office Investigating Theft of Elderly Wapella Woman

The DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance to identify thieves that stole over $1000 from an elderly women in Wapella on Sunday, July 20th at 12:30 PM.

The victim reported that one of the suspects knocked on her door and told her that he had concrete left over from a nearby job and offered to fix the victim’s concrete sidewalk. The white male demanded cash payment up front. After the elderly victim produced $400 in cash from the inside of the residence, the primary suspect diverted the victims attention, while another suspected entered the home and stole additional cash. The suspects left without completing any work.

Eyewitnesses reported that the suspects were driving a black dodge truck. There were 3 white males between the ages of 30 and 40 years old in the truck, along with a boy under the age of 10. The suspects would have been parked along Rt51 in Wapella at about 12:30 PM on Sunday, July 20th. The Sheriff's Office is the public's help to identify these suspects.
