Over 100 Participate In Tuesday Disaster Drill In DeWitt County

width=The gathering of emergency responders, emergency preparedness organizations and numerous others Tuesday morning simulated a cropduster crash on the 4H Fairgrounds in DeWitt County.

The simulation was a test to the preparedness of the various groups and agencies that would all be involved in an event like this. Chief Deputy of the Lincoln Police Department, Mike Geriets says the day an emergency arises isn't the time to get to know other agencies and what they can offer, it's doing drills like the one Tuesday that gets you familiar with everyone.

Syngenta provided the drill with around 15 volunteers from their Wapella location and according to Mary McElvein with Syngenta, the Tuesday drill was of great interest to them because it involved an agriculture related disaster.

width=The mock drill took place at the 4-H Fairgrounds, however, the drill called for the accident to take place at the field adjacent to Three Star Restaurant in Clinton. The drill moved locations because officials felt shutting down Route 54/Route 10 would seriously disrupt the flow of the city through the morning hours.

Over 100 officials and volunteers were a part of the Tuesday morning mock disaster.
