Red Cross Says Blood Donations Down; Local Chapter Hoping For Help

Blood donations are drastically down across the state and the Red Cross is asking for more people to step forward and donate blood.

Very few of the nation's population are blood donors. Carl Baker, Executive Director of the Mid-Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross, explains the process is simple and can greatly help others. In fact, one pint of blood can help save up to three lives.

Blood drivers are done twice a week at the Red Cross office in Decatur. They are done on Tuesday and Thursday with walk-ins welcome. Baker notes, that's not the only opportunity to donate. Various drives are done across the area throughout the year.
