 width=>>Cardinals Acquire Masterson From Tribe

(San Diego, CA) -- The Cardinals have acquired right-handed starter Justin Masterson from the Indians in exchange for minor league outfielder James Ramsey. Masterson has been on the disabled list since July 8th with a knee injury, but was scheduled to start for Cleveland tomorrow. He will now toe the rubber for St. Louis on Saturday against Milwaukee. The 29-year-old went just 4-and-6 with a 5.51 ERA for the Tribe this season.

 width=>>Cubs, Dodgers Complete Trade

The Dodgers have completed their trade with the Cubs, sending minor-league pitcher Jonathan Martinez to Chicago and optioning infielder Darwin Barney to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Barney was acquired by the Dodgers in Monday's trade and he was sent down Wednesday.

The Gold Glove winner in 2012 played second base, third base and shortstop in five seasons with the Cubs, but they cut him loose after he hit .230 with 16 RBIs in 72 games this season.

Martinez, a 20-year-old right-hander, was 7-5 with a 3.47 ERA in 19 starts for Class A Great Lakes this season. He was signed by the Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent in May 2011 out of Venezuela.

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- The White Sox have promoted 2014 top pick Carlos Rodon to Single-A Winston-Salem. The left-hander made his debut yesterday for the Dash, allowing two earned runs in one relief inning in which he struck out the side. Rodon could join the Sox later this season.

(Chicago, IL) -- Pitcher Felix Doubront [[ doo-BRONT ]] is changing leagues. The Boston Red Sox have dealt the left-hander to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later. The 26-year-old is 2-and-4 with a 6.07 ERA in 17 games for Boston this season, including 10 starts.

(Arlington, TX) -- Derek Jeter is getting a presidential send off in his last game against the Texas Rangers in Arlington. Former president George W. Bush came out on the field before Wednesday's game, giving the Yankees shortstop a signed photo taken in 2001. Jeter was also given a ten-thousand-dollar donation from the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation to his Turn 2 Foundation, and a pair of cowboy boots with his name, number and the Yankees' logo on them.

(Boston, MA) -- Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester could be heading to an AL East rival. The "Boston Globe" reports the Red Sox are in talks with the Baltimore Orioles about a trade for the ace left-hander. Brittany Ghiroli of Orioles.com reports Miguel Gonzalez could be headed to Boston in the deal. Other reports say the two sides are talking, but a deal is not close. Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is 4 p.m. Eastern on Thursday. Lester is 10-and-7 with a 2.52 ERA.

(Undated) -- Today is the last day for major league teams to make deals before the non-waiver trade deadline. Clubs have until 4 p.m. Eastern to make trades without first having to pass players through waivers. Among the prominent names rumored to be on the block are Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, Rays pitcher David Price, Phillies pitchers Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee and A.J. Burnett, Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp and Phillies outfielder Marlon Byrd.
