Cubs, Cards Win; Sox Pounded Late

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Edwin Jackson tossed six innings of two-run ball to lead the Cubs in a 7-3 win over the Dodgers from Chavez Ravine. Jackson improved to 6-and-11 while Chris Coghlan hit a two-run homer and Luis Valbuena added a solo shot. Anthony Rizzo hit an RBI double for Chicago, which has won three of four. Josh Beckett gave up three runs in four-plus innings and fell to 6-and-6 for Los Angeles. Matt Kemp stayed hot with a solo homer, his fifth roundtripper in six games. The Dodgers had won seven of eight.

(St. Louis, MO) -- The Cardinals used a three-run seventh inning to pick up a 3-2 win over the Brewers at Busch Stadium. Matt Holliday belted a solo shot for the team's first score. Two batters later, A.J. Pierzynski [[ peer-ZIN-skee ]] and Oscar Taveras singled-in back-to-back runs to give them the lead. John Lackey picked up the win in his St. Louis debut by throwing seven innings of two-run ball. Trevor Rosenthal closed it out for his league-leading 34th save as the Cards won their fourth game of their last five. Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Mark Reynolds went deep for Milwaukee, which has lost five of seven. Jeremy Jeffress took the loss after Matt Garza threw six shutout innings.

(Chicago, IL) -- The Twins used a nine-run eighth inning to pull away for a 16-3 victory over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Danny Santana finished 5-for-6 with four RBI for Minnesota, which has won two straight since a three-game slide. Chris Parmelee, Oswaldo Arcia and Eric Fryer hit back-to-back-to-back solo homers in the ninth. Arcia had three hits and three RBI while Fryer added three hits and drove in two. Kyle Gibson allowed three runs over seven innings to improve to 10-and-8. Jose Quintana allowed an unearned run over five frames while Javy Guerra took the loss. Dayan Viciedo hit a two-run homer for Chicago, which has lost three of five.
