Code Red System Keeps Public Informed In Local Situations Big and Small

After a Monday incident that forced the evacuation of Clinton residents, local safety officials are hoping more of the public will register for a mass notification system that will instantly inform the public of any emergency situations within the city or county.

 width=Code Red is a mass notification system that assists in times of emergency, much like the natural gas leak Monday. CENCOM Director Tony Harris explains the system helps to get information out to large groups of people in the event of emergencies or weather events.

The Code Red system can be a very precise informational tool for the public. Harris explains the information you provide will only alert you when an emergency that affects resident's.

To get on the calling list for the Code Red system, you can apply online through several websites.

You can self- register on the city's website at www.clintonillinois.com. The Dewitt County website, www.dewitcountyill.com, or you can visit the DeWitt County Sheriff's website at www.dewittsheriff.com.

Find the "Code Red" icon at the respective home pages. From there, you can provide your home and cell phone numbers as well as e-mail addresses.
