 width=>>NCAA Board Giving Big Five Conferences Autonomy

(Indianapolis, IN) -- The NCAA is giving the five power conferences approval to make some of their own rules. The Division One Board of Directors has voted to allow the SEC, Big Ten, Pac-12, Big 12 and ACC the ability to provide more benefits to student-athletes regarding scholarships and the full cost of attending school. Those conferences would also be able to make some of their own decisions regarding recruiting rules, with three student-athletes from each conference taking part in the decision process. The proposal can be nullified if at least 75 schools outside of those conferences are against it.

(Springfield, MA) -- Former Maryland men's basketball head coach Gary Williams makes his way into the Naismith Hall of Fame today. Williams will be inducted along with nine others including Alonzo Mourning, Nolan Richardson, Mitch Richmond and David Stern. He spent 22 seasons at Maryland, where he guided the Terrapins to 14 NCAA tournament berths in his final 18 seasons, reached the Sweet 16 seven times, made the Final Four twice and won the school's first NCAA basketball championship in 2002.
