The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge raises money and awareness for ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Quinn says ALS effects 56-hundred Americans each year. So far, there is no cure for the disease. In addition to taking the Ice Bucket Challenge, Quinn also made a donation to the ALS Association. The governor challenged three members of the Chicago White Sox to take the Ice Bucket Challenge. He wants to see first baseman Paul Konerko, pitcher Chris Sale and infielder Gordon Beckham take the challenge.
