University of Illinois Tests Dog Arthritis Fixes

The University of Illinois is looking for dozens of arthritic dogs to help test a dietary supplement for their aching joints.

According to reports, the university's College of Veterinary Medicine is studying whether the supplement used by human patients can also improve dogs' quality of life. It's looking to test the supplement on 60 pups of mixed sizes, ages and breeds.

The supplement's name isn't being disclosed because of a confidentiality agreement with the sponsoring company.

University rehabilitation practitioner Kim Knap says more than half the dogs in her department suffer from arthritis. She says therapies include water treadmill workouts, weight management and pain medication.
