Bloomington Man Convicted of Arson in House Fire

A McLean County jury has convicted a Bloomington man of aggravated arson after acquitting him of attempted murder.

Reports indicate the jury's decision Monday came after 23 hours of deliberating over 25-year-old Joshua Hoeniges' case. He will face six to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced in October.

Hoeniges was charged in connection to a March fire at his family's home. The attempted murder charge accused him of deliberately setting fire to the house while his parents and two siblings were inside.

Hoeniges' lawyer argued during the trial that it was an accidental fire ignited after a night of drinking by several family members, including Hoeniges.
