Rauner Says He'll Continue to Push for Term Limits

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner (ROW'-nur) says not having a term limits measure on November's ballot is a temporary setback.

He told reporters Sunday he'll "campaign very aggressively" on term limits in both his bid to unseat Gov. Pat Quinn and on behalf of state lawmakers who commit to term limits. A new ad released Sunday focuses on term limits.

Rauner led a petition drive for the ballot measure calling for term limits, among other things. Courts deemed it unconstitutional. On Friday the Illinois Supreme Court rejected a request to consider the measure and the State Board of Elections certified a ballot without the question.

Rauner says even longtime Republicans officeholders he's publicly praised - recently U.S. Rep. John Shimkus and state Sen. Chapin Rose - "should term limit themselves."
