Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the people and businesses in Illinois need to be on guard when it comes to identity theft. She says more than a thousand businesses have been hit by hackers in the past year. Madigan says businesses should create strong network passwords and update their antivirus software regularly so it can detect malicious software. People should be sure to set up transaction alerts on their accounts and review their credit report, bank statements, and credit card statements regularly.
