AG Issues Warning On Phone Scams

The Illinois Attorney General's Office issued a new warning this week about a phone scam that's trying to con people out of money. Rich Cravens with the Crawford County Sheriff's Office says callers pose as government officials and say you either have unpaid taxes or you've won some sort of sweepstakes.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan says her office has had a number of complaints in recent weeks of scammers claiming to be with the IRS. They'll tell people they're under investigation or owe money to the IRS. In some cases, the scammers are able to spoof caller ID devices to make it look like the call is coming from a legitimate government agency. Officials say if you get any calls like this, just hang up and never give out any of your personal information.
