Hospital Sponsored 5K Adds To Busy Apple and Pork Weekend In Clinton

Organizers for the Doctor John Warner Hospital's first ever Swifty Swine and Pigglet Prance 5K run/walk are hoping their event adds to the biggest weekend in Clinton and DeWitt County.

With the yearly festival just weeks away, organizers say they are excited about what the run/walk event held at Weldon Springs State Recreation Area, could add. Margie Gehres, the primary organizer with DJWH, explains the run will be promoting health and wellness in the Clinton community.

Gehres recently attended a meeting with staff from various area hospitals. She heard about Kirby Medical Center's annual Kirby Derby 5K during that time. The Monticello 5K inspired her to think about events the DJWH could offer to the Clinton community.

As of last month, the race had 21 participants signed up for the weekend. After consulting other race directors, Gehres understands many racers don't sign up until the day before or day of the event so they are hoping for 75 on Apple & Pork weekend.
