State's Top Point Guard Chooses Villanova Over Illinois

width=Stevenson High School point guard Jalen Brunson, who received scholarship offers from Illinois and other major college basketball programs, announced Wednesday he has decided to attend Villanova.

Brunson said the coaching staff at Villanova was a major reason he chose the university in Philadelphia. Brunson added he thinks he will fit in with the Wildcats because the team is made up of a "great group of guys."

The son of retired NBA guard and former Chicago Bulls assistant coach Rick Brunson helped lead Stevenson to the final four in Class 4A during the last two seasons.

Brunson, a 6-foot-2 senior, said Villanova coach Jay Wright told him the team needs him to make an immediate impact, not just on the court but also in the locker room.
