(Cincinnati, OH) -- Johnny Cueto [[ KWAY-toh ]] and Aroldis Chapman combined on a three-hitter as the Reds edged the Cardinals 1-0 at Great American Ball Park. Cueto fanned seven while allowing three hits and one walk over eight innings to improve to 18-and-8. Chapman worked the ninth for his 33rd save Cincinnati took three of four in the series. Ramon Santiago plated the lone run of the game with a bloop to center that turned into a force play at second base, but scored Brandon Phillips in the bottom of the eighth. Lance Lynn allowed just three hits in a complete-game loss to fall to 15-and-9 for St. Louis.

(Chicago, IL) -- Chris Sale outdueled Scott Kazmir as the White Sox edged the Athletics 1-0 at U.S. Cellular Field. Sale struck out nine while allowing just two hits and two walks in eight innings to improve to 12-and-3. Jake Petricka allowed two runners in the ninth before closing it out for his 13th save. Marcus Semien homered for the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Chicago took three of four in the series. Kazmir went the distance in defeat. He struck out seven while allowing one run on four hits and a walk to fall to 14-and-8. Jed Lowrie had two of Oakland's three hits in the setback.

(Milwaukee, WI) -- National League MVP hopeful Giancarlo Stanton is suffering from an injury following a hit-by-pitch on Thursday in Milwaukee. The Miami Marlins slugger took a pitch off the face from Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers [[ FY-ers ]]. He was taken off the field by a stretcher. Stanton suffered facial lacerations and fractures along with dental damage. He will be looked at again Friday in Miami. Reed Johnson replaced Stanton and was also hit with a pitch. Benches cleared, and Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee and manager Mike Redmond were ejected. Stanton is hitting .288 with 37 homers and 105 RBI.
