Quinn Touts Veterans Support On Campaign Trail

Gov. Pat Quinn is touting his record on veterans' issues during his re-election bid by announcing a coalition of military families and elected officials.

Supporters note the Democrat's attention on veterans with jobs programs, homebuyer initiatives and attending soldiers' funerals. Quinn appeared at the Monday event at a Soldier Field memorial statue.

Quinn is seeking a second full term against Republican Bruce Rauner (ROW'-nur). The venture capitalist is seeking public office for the first time. It's one of the most competitive gubernatorial races nationwide.

Last month Rauner launched a veterans' coalition. Proponents noted his personal donations to an organization helping veterans.

Rauner has criticized Quinn's record on veterans, saying high unemployment persists. But Quinn has said that Illinois has the most veteran friendly programs nationwide.

The election is Nov. 4.
