Pointed Discussion Of County Board Issues Took Place Thursday

The Clinton Landfill and 2015 budget were topics of heated dissension at Thursday's DeWitt County Board Meeting.

Terry Redman, Chairman of the DeWitt County Democrats, addressed the Board regarding some major issues that have been prevalent during the last two years of board meetings. He critisized the way Board Chair Sherrie Brown and other members of the "Reform Coalition" handled the vote regarding the host agreement with the Landfill. The quarter-million dollar budget deficit this year was also mentioned by Redman.

Board Member Terry Hoffman began debating with Redman over the host agreement issue. Redman said the Board had been warned by two attorneys not to violate the agreement. The two also disagreed on the subject of payments when a contract is violated.

Brown stressed it had not yet been proven that any contract was violated. Redman explained he wanted to let the Nov. 4th voters be aware if a last minute budget is brought forth next month. He asked if any of the Board Members had researched surrounding counties taxes before wanting to lower the levy also.
